Rand Water invites high-achieving undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for the 2027 External Bursary Scheme. This program targets South African youth who are passionate about pursuing careers within the water sector, providing full financial support to students in specialized engineering, science, and commerce disciplines.

Available Bursary Disciplines for 2027

Applications are strictly limited to the following fields of study and year levels:

Engineering and Built Environment

  • B.Tech or BSc Civil Engineering: 1st or 2nd year students (2 slots)
  • BSc or BEng Electrical/Electronic Engineering: 1st or 2nd year students (4 slots)
  • BSc Mechanical Engineering: 1st or 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • B. Arch (Architecture): 1st or 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • Bachelor of Geomatics / Surveying: 1st year students (1 slot)

Science and Technology

  • BSc Water Science and Sanitation Science: 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • BSc Honours Chemistry: 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • BSc Honours Microbiology: 1st or 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • Diploma in Water Science and Technology: 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • Masters of Public Health: 2nd year students (1 slot)

Commerce and Law

  • BCom Accounting: 1st or 2nd year students (1 slot)
  • LLB (Law): 2nd year students (3 slots)

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 intake, applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria:

  1. Nationality: Must be a South African citizen.
  2. Demographics: Previously disadvantaged individuals (ACI) are encouraged to apply.
  3. Academic Standing: Must have passed Matric and be currently enrolled full-time at a recognized South African tertiary institution.
  4. Performance: A minimum overall average of 65% is required, with strong performance in major subjects.
  5. Age: Applicants must be under 35 years of age.
  6. Funding Status: Must not hold any other bursary or external funding.
