An “Approved” result tells you SASSA found you eligible for the R370 for that month. It doesn’t yet mean the money has left SASSA. The answer to “when do I get paid?” sits in the pay day detail next to the approved month. This page explains how to read that detail and what an empty pay day means.
Reading an approved month line by line
After you enter your ID number, cellphone number and the SMS PIN on srd.sassa.gov.za, SASSA lists your outcome month by month. (Our guide to running the status check covers the login part.) For each approved month, look for three things:
- The month name. Make sure you are reading the current month and not one from earlier in the year.
- The outcome. It should say approved for that month.
- The pay day. SASSA’s status guide says a processed month shows a pay date. That date is when SASSA released the payment, not necessarily the moment it reflects in your account.
The money goes to whatever payment method you captured: your own bank account, or the cash option the portal offers. If you aren’t sure which method SASSA holds for you, use the bank-details option on the same site and confirm the account is active and in your name. SASSA can’t pay into someone else’s account. People who collect cash should read our note on collecting SRD money in cash, because Post Office collection has ended.
Approved, but the pay day is blank
A blank pay day means SASSA has not processed a payment for that month yet. This is common early in a payment cycle. There are three usual reasons:
- The month’s run hasn’t happened yet. The SRD isn’t paid on the fixed older-persons and children’s dates. Each month is assessed and paid on its own, and the timing moves around. Our June 2026 SRD dates page explains why the days shift.
- Extra fraud checks. A SASSA spokesperson has explained that some approved people are taken out of a payment run for further checks and paid in a later run.
- A missing step on your side. Unverified identity or incomplete bank details can hold up payment even after approval.
SASSA publishes no fixed number of days between approval and payment. Check the status again every few days rather than daily. Don’t reapply: a new application won’t speed up a month that is already approved.
From waiting to taking action
Stop waiting and act when either of these happens:
- The month is approved and the pay day is still empty after other approved people you know have been paid for that month.
- A pay day appears, but no money arrives in your account within a few working days.
SASSA’s 2026 grant booklet advises anyone whose SRD is approved but unpaid to ask for a verification link and then do the facial recognition check. Do this first. For the full set of next steps, including who to contact and what to have ready, see what to do when a SASSA grant is not paid.
The pay day has passed. Is my money lost if I don’t withdraw it straight away?
No. SASSA says grant money stays in the account until you withdraw it, so you don’t need to rush to an ATM on the day.
