Most SRD status results are about whether you qualify. A handful are about something else: SASSA has decided you qualify but cannot get the R370 to you because of the payment details on your file. These banking messages are worth reading carefully, because unlike a decline they are usually yours to fix, and no appeal is needed.
“Bank details pending”
According to SASSA’s status guide, this message means SASSA received your application but has no banking details or payment choice captured for you. It turns up in two situations:
- Nothing was ever captured. You applied but never added an account or picked a payment method. Fix: capture your details on srd.sassa.gov.za; the steps are in our guide to submitting SRD banking details.
- Details were captured, but the payment could not go through. A mistyped account number, an account held in someone else’s name, or an account the bank has since closed all cause this. Fix: recapture correct details for an open account in your own name.
Do not confuse it with plain “pending”, which means SASSA’s monthly eligibility checks are still running and you can only wait; our page on what an ordinary pending result means deals with that one.
Is there a “bank verification failed” message?
Many people search for this phrase, but we could not find it among the status messages SASSA publishes for the SRD grant. SASSA does check every account with the bank before paying. When that check fails, what you normally see is one of the following instead:
- Bank details pending coming back after you had already captured an account.
- An identity verification request. SASSA has said this can be triggered by suspected fraud or by contact or banking details that look wrong, and it usually arrives as an SMS link that must be used within 72 hours. The link leads to a facial check, not a banking form.
- An approved month with no pay day. SASSA’s 2026 booklet treats approved-but-unpaid as an identity matter: ask the SRD site for a verification link, then pass the facial check.
Why banks reject an SRD account
Work through these before you recapture, so the same problem does not repeat:
- Name and ID mismatch. The bank’s record must show the same ID number as your SRD application. Joint accounts and accounts opened under a spouse’s or parent’s ID fail.
- One wrong digit. Compare the account number with a bank statement or your banking app, not with an old note.
- Bank selected, number missing. SASSA has reported delays from people who chose a bank but never typed an account number.
- Closed, dormant or restricted account. Ask your bank whether the account can accept incoming payments.
- Details not matching Home Affairs. SASSA asks applicants to capture personal details exactly as they appear on the ID registered at Home Affairs.
How soon a banking fix shows
SASSA does not publish a turnaround time. What is known is how the cycle runs: each month is assessed separately, SASSA verifies new details with the bank before paying, and SASSA has said approved applicants are sometimes pulled from a run and paid afterwards. In practice, recheck your status every few days after a correction rather than every hour. The aim is to see the banking message clear and a pay day appear next to the approved month.
Once the message has cleared, confirming that your new details took effect shows which month should reach the new account. If a pay day is showing and you still see nothing, the problem has moved to the bank side; checking whether the R370 actually arrived covers that next step.
If the banking message keeps returning after two careful corrections, phone 0800 60 10 11 during office hours on weekdays, or write to SRD@sassa.gov.za, giving the affected month and your ID number.
