AfriSam, the cement, aggregate and readymix concrete producer, does not run one national bursary scheme with a single application window. Instead, individual AfriSam quarries and plants advertise a small number of bursaries, often one or two places, on the vacancies list of the AfriSam careers page. Each advert names the site, the field of study, its own email address and its own closing date.
The Western Cape quarry bursaries that closed on 11 September 2026
AfriSam’s most recent advert, published in September 2026 for its Cape region, offered two three-year (36-month) bursaries to matriculants:
- one Civil Engineering Diploma place linked to Peninsula Quarry
- one Mechanical Engineering Diploma place linked to Rheebok Quarry
AfriSam asked for a 60% average in academic results and good behavioural standards. Applicants emailed a CV, a certified ID copy and their Grade 12 results to the Cape recruitment address, with “Bursary-Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering” in the subject line. Applications closed on 11 September 2026, so this round is over. The advert headline refers to “bursary opportunities for 2026”, although it went up in September 2026; the places most likely start with the 2027 academic year, but AfriSam does not say so directly.
How AfriSam’s site-by-site adverts compare
Earlier adverts in AfriSam’s own document library show the pattern. Each operation sets different terms, so read the specific advert rather than assuming one rule fits all:
- Zeekoewater Quarry, Mpumalanga: one engineering bursary (Mechanical or Electrical), open until 13 March 2026. AfriSam asked for a completed and signed application form, a CV, a certified ID and matric or first-year results, sent to the Gauteng North aggregate address. It said that applicants who hear nothing within two weeks should treat their application as unsuccessful.
- Roodepoort Plant, Gauteng: two BSc or BEng Electrical Engineering places for students in their third or fourth year, for the 2026 intake. That advert closed on 23 September 2025 and also required a 60% average.
- Earlier engineering bursary adverts came from Gauteng sites such as Jukskei, Eikenhof and Rooikraal.
The Zeekoewater advert describes AfriSam’s bursary scheme as broad enough to include civil, mining, industrial and chemical engineering, accounting, HR, supply chain and logistics, but every advert we found offered only engineering places at that particular site.
Who AfriSam prefers
AfriSam is a designated employer under the Employment Equity Act. Its adverts give first preference to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSA) and to women, and say AfriSam may select candidates in line with its transformation goals. Strong marks matter too: 60% is the stated minimum average, and AfriSam describes the students it wants as high performers who need financial help.
Catching the next AfriSam advert
AfriSam has not published another bursary advert since the Cape round closed. On 1 October 2026 the careers page on AfriSam’s website said that no vacancies were open. Because adverts appear at different times of year (March, September and others) and stay up for only a few weeks, check that page regularly. Have these ready so you can apply within days:
- an up-to-date CV
- a recently certified copy of your ID
- your Grade 12 results, plus your latest university or college record if you already study
Use the exact email address and subject line printed in the advert you answer; AfriSam uses a different mailbox for each region, and some adverts also require a signed application form.
