The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation is on the lookout for South Africa’s next generation of bold thinkers and trailblazing entrepreneurs. Every year, it invests in high-potential young people who not only dream big, but are committed to shaping the country’s future through innovation, leadership, and social impact.

If you’re currently in Matric (Class of 2025) and planning to study at one of South Africa’s top universities in 2026, this Fellowship could be your launchpad. It’s more than just financial aid — it’s a complete package of mentorship, entrepreneurial training, and lifelong networks to help you become a leader in your field.

Who Can Apply?

The Fellowship seeks determined and academically strong learners who match these criteria:

  • Nationality & Age: South African citizens aged 21 or younger in 2025.
  • School Year: Currently in Matric (Grade 12) in 2025.
  • Academic Results: At least 60% for Mathematics or 80% for Mathematical Literacy in Grade 11, plus a minimum overall average of 70% (excluding Life Orientation).
  • Fields of Study: Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Health Science (excluding Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Science), Humanities, Law, or Science.
  • University Placement: Must plan to study at a partner university (WITS, UJ, UCT, NMU, RU, UWC, SU, UP, UFS, UKZN, or TSiBA).
  • Mindset: A passion for entrepreneurship and a belief in South Africa’s potential.

What the Fellowship Offers

The level of financial support depends on your household income, but all Fellows receive a comprehensive support system:

  • Household income under R1 million/year: Full funding – tuition, accommodation, meals, books, monthly allowance, tutoring, and counselling.
  • Income R1m–R1.5m/year: Tuition, accommodation, meals, tutoring, and counselling.
  • Income above R1.5m/year: Tuition, tutoring, and counselling.

Beyond the financial side, the real value comes from access to:

  • Entrepreneurship workshops and leadership training
  • Networking opportunities with other driven young leaders
  • Possible funding for innovative business ideas

How to Apply

Online (preferred method):

  1. Go to the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation website.
  2. Create an account, log in, and fill in the application form.
  3. Upload certified copies (not older than 3 months) of your ID, Grade 11 final results, and latest Grade 12 results (if available).
  4. Submit your application before the closing date.
