The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF), in partnership with Lakato Veterinary Wholesalers and private donors, invites financially needy BVSc students at the University of Pretoria to apply for its 2026 bursary. This award supports 4th- and 5th-year veterinary students showing academic excellence and active engagement in student life.
About the Bursary Provider
The SAVF is a nonprofit founded in 1984 to promote veterinary education, research, and animal welfare in South Africa. Through partnerships and donations, the Foundation provides educational funding and supports future veterinary professionals.
Fields Covered
This bursary is exclusively for students enrolled in the BVSc (Veterinary Science) degree at the University of Pretoria, in either their 4th or 5th year of study.
Expenses Covered
The bursary awards R12,000 per student (typically four bursaries—two for 4th year students and two for 5th year), to support study-related expenses. There is no work-back obligation.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be enrolled in 4th or 5th year BVSc at University of Pretoria for 2026
- Have a minimum academic average of 60%
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be actively involved in student activities (sports, cultural, leadership)
- Complete a short online quiz about SAVF during the application
