The Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (formerly Attorneys Fidelity Fund) offers bursaries for LLB students in their final 2–3 years of study and for practicing or candidate attorneys pursuing postgraduate law qualifications for the 2026–2027 academic years.

About the Bursary Provider

The LPFF is a statutory body established under the Attorneys Act to reimburse clients for losses due to attorney trust-fund theft. Beyond its protective mandate, the Fund invests in legal education by supporting law students and professionals through bursaries and training development.

Fields Covered

Bursaries are available for:

  • Undergraduate LLB students entering 3rd or 4th year (after completing first two years or already in 2nd/3rd year)
  • Postgraduate law studies by practicing or candidate attorneys holding qualifying degrees (BA Law, BComm Law, BProc, BIuris, or revised 4‑year LLB completion)

Expenses Covered

The bursary covers tuition fees only, awarded for up to two years. The amount is approved annually by the Fund’s Board.

Eligibility Requirements

  • South African citizen or permanent resident
  • For undergraduates: have completed Matric and have 2 years or less left in LLB
  • For postgraduates: practicing or candidate attorney with a qualifying law degree
  • Enroll at a recognized South African university
  • Demonstrate financial need and/or strong academic performance

You’ll need a passport photo, certified ID, official transcripts, and a testimonial from your Dean. Postgrads also require salary advice and info on other funding.
6. Can I apply via email?
No. Applications must be posted or hand-delivered. Email or fax submissions won’t be accepted.
7. When is the closing date?
15 August 2025 at 12:00 noon. Late submissions will be rejected.
8. Who gets preference?
Preference is given to students with financial need, though academic merit also matters.
9. How long is the bursary valid?
It can be awarded for up to two years, typically covering your final 2 years of LLB or a postgraduate law qualification.
