The bursary supports full-time undergraduate degrees in:

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • South African citizen and previously disadvantaged individual (PDI)
  • Admitted or applying to a public university for full-time undergraduate study
  • Family income between R350 000–R500 000 per annum (applicants with income < R350 000 must have applied for NSFAS)
  • Current Matric students: ≥ 75% in Maths & Physical Science
  • University students: ≥ 65% overall average
  • Students with disabilities: academic requirements are relaxed; any field and postgraduate study are allowed
  • Priority is given to students with disabilities

Applications open via the StudyTrust portal from 1 May to 30 September 2025. Applicants must:

  • Register or log in to StudyTrust
  • Upload certified copies of: ID; Matric results/certificate or university transcripts; proof of admission/registration; household income documentation; headshot photo; proof of disability (if applicable)
  • Complete required fields and submit by the deadline

8. Can I have NSFAS and Sage?
No—Sage targets middle-income students (R350k–500k). Students below R350k must have applied for NSFAS but if unsuccessful, may still be eligible.
9. Is living-out covered?
Yes—accommodation funding applies to both on- and off-campus housing, depending on need and availability.
