About BBD Software
BBD (founded in 1984) is a software development company offering services like systems integration, UX design, mobile apps, consulting and software maintenance. Its bursary programme aims to grow tech talent in South Africa by supporting students financially and offering mentorship and practical exposure.
Fields Covered by the BBD Bursary
If you apply, you should be studying or plan to study any of the following fields:
- Computer Science
- Software Engineering / Computer & Software Engineering
- Information Technology
- Informatics
- Game Design
- Bachelors, Honours, Masters or Doctorate levels in these fields
Expenses Covered by the BBD Bursary
Winners of the bursary receive:
- University tuition fees covered
- Monthly allowance for living expenses and incidentals
- Access to mentorship and development, exposure to BBD’s tech environment and tools
- Opportunity to join BBD’s Graduate Programme after studies
Eligibility Requirements for the BBD Bursary
To qualify, you must meet all of these:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric; or be enrolled / accepted for tertiary studies in one of the eligible IT fields
- Have a minimum Matric average of 70% if you’re in Matric; if you’re already at university, a minimum tertiary academic average of 65%
- A passion for software development, building projects etc. A portfolio or side projects help if you have them
- Study or plan to study at a recognised/accredited South African university
Tips from BursaryForms:

- Have your GitHub or other project links ready — even small side-projects show interest and initiative.
- Write a clear motivational statement about why you want a career in software or IT.
