Eligibility Requirements for the Nestlé Future Talent Bursary

You’ll typically need to meet all of these:

  • South African citizen
  • Be aged 17-25 years
  • Completed Matric (Grade 12) or currently in first year of tertiary study; must be full-time at a recognised institution
  • Good academic performance: Matric average of at least ~65% (or the equivalent “C” aggregate) in earlier rounds; for Engineering in particular, minimum levels in Maths & Physical Science required. Tertiary students must maintain certain averages (≈ 65-70%)
  • Financial need: household income ceiling applies (in recent rounds ≈ R605,000 per annum)
  • Applicants must be self-motivated, high performing, and show alignment with one of the eligible study fields.

1. Can I apply if I’m already studying in first year?+
Yes. If you meet the academic average requirement and are studying in one of the eligible fields, first-year university students may apply.
2. Is the bursary only for Engineering?+
No. While engineering is a major field, many other areas such as Digital Media, Agriculture, IT, Finance, Marketing etc are also eligible.
3. What if my household income is above R605,000?+
You would likely not qualify, as financial need is a criterion, and past rounds set that household income ceiling.
4. Do I need a minimum grade in Maths & Physical Sciences?+
Yes — especially for engineering fields, a Level 6 or equivalent is required in Mathematics and Physical Science.
