About the Bursary Provider
Kathu Solar Park is a 100 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) installation in the Northern Cape, owned through a community trust and operated by Mainstream Renewable Power. Its bursary programme is part of its socio-economic development mandate, administered by StudyTrust to uplift local students through funding, mentoring, and support services.
Fields Covered
The bursary is open to full-time study in any field at accredited public universities, universities of technology, or public TVET colleges.
Expenses Covered
Funding is based on individual financial need and may cover:
- Tuition, registration, and examination fees
- Accommodation (dormitory or equivalent)
- Meals
- Learning materials including textbooks and stationery
Additional support may include travel allowances, data, laptops, and mentorship programs.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following:
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality (approx. 50 km radius of Kathu Solar Park)
- Have completed Matric or are currently in Matric or tertiary study
- Be accepted or registered for full-time study at an accredited SA tertiary institution for 2026
- Demonstrate academic excellence via Matric or tertiary results
- Show financial need with household income ≤ R600,000 per annum.

- South African ID
- Matric mid-year or final results, or tertiary academic transcripts
- Proof of residence (e.g., utility bill)
