Depending on need (means test), SANRAL provides:
- Full bursary: covers tuition, registration, study materials, equipment, accommodation, meals, living allowance, and wellness services
- Partial bursary: covers tuition, registration, accommodation, and wellness services access
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- South African citizen aged 35 or younger
- Currently in Matric (or recently completed Matric) or enrolled at a public tertiary institution
- Study full-time in one of the eligible fields at an accredited public university, university of technology, or TVET college (private institutions excluded)
- Matriculants: ≥ 70% average; tertiary students: ≥ 60% average
- Demonstrate financial need; must not already have bursary funding
- Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply; preference may be given based on SANRAL’s employment equity and transformation mandate
How to Apply
Submit your application online via the SANRAL bursary portal during the application period. Include certified copies of:
- ID or birth certificate
- Matric term results (current Grade 12) or full academic transcript (tertiary)
- Proof of registration or acceptance letter
- One-page motivational letter
- Parent/guardian IDs, income proof (≤ 3 months old), and proof of residence (utility bill)
- Additional documents (if applicable): death certificate of parent(s), proof of sibling in tertiary, court decree for foster care, marriage certificates
