The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is inviting academically strong and financially needy South African students to apply for its 2026 Technical Bursary Programme—designed to train future infrastructure professionals to support municipal service delivery across the country.

About the Bursary Provider

MISA is a government agency under the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs. It builds technical capacity in municipalities by deploying professionals in built-environment disciplines to support planning, delivery, operations and maintenance of infrastructure.

Fields Covered

The bursary supports full-time undergraduate studies (degree or national diploma) in the following built-environment fields:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Management
  • Project & Construction Management
  • Urban & Regional Planning

Expenses Covered

The bursary covers:

  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Prescribed textbooks and materials
  • Accommodation and meals

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following:

  • South African citizen
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Studying or intending to study full-time in one of the eligible fields at a recognised SA institution
  • Household income below R600 000 per annum
  • If currently studying, must have passed all prior-year courses
  • Preference to youth from rural areas, previously disadvantaged backgrounds, and learners with disabilities
