Fields Covered
The bursary is available to students who complete the gap year first, and then study full-time in one of the following disciplines:
- Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng/BEng Tech/Diploma)
- Construction Management (BSc/BEng/BEng Tech/Diploma)
Gap year placements involve work in disciplines like earthworks, road construction, pipelines, trenchless solutions, bridges, low-cost housing, and more.
Expenses Covered
The bursary provides full funding, covering:
- Tuition and registration fees
- Accommodation and meals
- Prescribed books and resources
- Professional exposure through industry mentorship and vacation work
Continuation to full bursary hinges on acceptable performance during the paid gap year.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- South African citizen
- Currently in Grade 12 writing final exams in 2025
- Interest in completing the 2026 Gap Year programme
- Aiming to study civil engineering or construction management at one of these institutions in 2027: University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, CPUT, University of Pretoria, or Nelson Mandela University
- Minimum matric result of 60% in Pure Mathematics (or equivalent) and Physical Science
