Eligibility Requirements for the Eskom Bursary

Think you have got what it takes? Here is what was required for 2025:

  • Must be a South African citizen with valid ID
  • Must have completed Matric (Grade 12) in the previous year (2024)
  • Strong school subject results: for University-level engineering fields you needed at least Level 4 in English, Level 4 in Pure Mathematics, and Level 4 in Physical Science; often higher for “University bursaries”.
  • Conditional or provisional acceptance at a recognised/accredited South African university / university of technology for the qualification you intend to study
  • Must be undertaking full-time study at the institution
  • Must not already be in receipt of another bursary for the same qualification
  • Applicants with disabilities are encouraged; preference may be given to under-represented / equity groups

We are supporting you at BursaryForms! Expert tips:

  • Get your Matric results, conditional acceptance letter, certified ID ready early—missing documents often cause disqualification.
  • Check the required levels for major subjects (Mathematics, Physical Science) and make sure your scores meet Eskom’s minimums.
  • Highlight any special circumstances (e.g. disability, rural background, under-represented community) in your motivational letter.
  • Monitor Eskom’s bursary page so you know when the next application cycle opens. Deadlines are strict.
