Fields Covered by the KMF High School Scholarship

This isn’t for specific university disciplines yet—it supports learners entering high school. Eligible learners must be in Grade 6 and will go to Grade 8. The scholarship covers general high school expenses and support services.

Expenses Covered by the KMF High School Scholarship

This bursary helps with many school-related costs, such as:

KMF does not cover 100% of all costs; parents/guardians are expected to contribute.

Eligibility Requirements for the KMF Scholarship

To apply, learners must satisfy ALL of these criteria:

  • South African citizen.
  • Currently in Grade 6 in the year of application.
  • Aged between 10 and 13 years in the year of application.
  • Combined household gross income not exceeding R17,500 per month.
  • Lives in Western Cape—Cape Town area: Northern Suburbs, Southern Suburbs, Bellville / Helderberg / or within travel range to Bellville for Saturday classes.
  • Commitment to academics, leadership, work ethic.
  • Able to attend Saturday classes / assessments in Bellville.

Strong documentation is required. Missing items will lead to disqualification.

How to Apply for the KMF High School Scholarship

Here’s how to prepare and submit your application:

  • Obtain the online application form via KMF website / application portal.
  • Attach certified/scanned copies of: birth certificate; parents or guardians’ ID (or death certificate if applicable); school reports (Grade 5 Term 4 and Grade 6 Term 1).
  • Provide proof of household income: recent payslips, IRP5s, tax returns or affidavit if unemployed; three months’ bank statements.
  • Handwritten essay by the learner: about their family, community and living conditions.
  • Submit everything before the deadline.

1. What does the KMF High School Scholarship include?+

3. Do I need to come in for classes on Saturdays?+
Yes. Scholars must attend Saturday classes/assessments in Bellville as part of the Selection & Support Programme.

5. Can I apply if I live outside the Western Cape?+
No. Applicants must reside in certain areas of Western Cape close enough to travel to Bellville.

You need birth certificate, guardians’ ID, Grade 5 Term 4 & Grade 6 Term 1 reports, proof of income / bank statements, and an essay by the learner.
7. Is 100% funding provided?+
No. The scholarship is partial. Costs not covered must be contributed by parents/guardians.
8. What happens if I miss the closing date?+
You cannot apply once the deadline has passed. For 2025, the deadline was 30 April 2025, and applications after that date were not accepted.
9. How are scholars selected?+
After initial screening (checking eligibility and documentation), there are assessments/tests, interviews/workshops, and then selection into the Support & Selection Programme. Attendance in Saturday classes etc. plays a part.
10. When will I hear back / be notified?+
For the 2025 cycle, applicants were notified after the selection program phases — assessments around mid-year, then workshops, with awards made roughly in early 2026.
