SASSA SRD Status Check: Step-by-Step on the Official Website

Once you have applied for the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, SASSA decides each month separately whether you qualify. The place to see those monthly decisions is the SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za. This walkthrough covers the check itself, how to read the results, and where to go next for each kind of result. Checking costs nothing and needs no login or password.

Before you start: two details and your phone

  • The ID number you used on the application form.
  • The phone number registered on your SRD application. It must match, because the one-time PIN is sent there.
  • That phone switched on and with you, so you can read the SMS within a few minutes.

If you no longer have the number you applied with, the PIN will not reach you. Sort out the number first through the contact-update option on the same SRD site, which will ask you to pass facial recognition.

Running the check on srd.sassa.gov.za

  1. Type srd.sassa.gov.za into your browser yourself rather than tapping a link someone forwarded. Confirm the address ends in sassa.gov.za before you type anything into the page.
  2. Open the application-status section of the site (the direct page is srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status).
  3. Fill in your ID and registered phone number, then ask for the PIN.
  4. SASSA sends a one-time PIN by SMS. Type it into the page. If it does not arrive, give it a few minutes before asking for a new one.
  5. The results page loads, showing your application details and a list of months.

If you prefer a different route, such as a call or a data-free option, the comparison of every SASSA status-check method sets them side by side.

Reading the month-by-month results

The results page lists each month SASSA has assessed since your application, one row per month. Read each row on its own. A month that was approved says nothing about the month after it, because SASSA re-checks your income, bank data and other databases every month. It is normal to see approved, declined and pending months on the same page.

For an approved month, look for the pay day field next to it. A date there means SASSA has processed that month’s R370 for payment. A blank pay day means the payment has not been processed yet, even though you qualified. For a declined month, the row also gives the reason SASSA used, such as income found in your bank account or a match on another database.

Your next move for each result

Approved with a pay day

Nothing to do except wait for the money in the account or cash option you chose. The guide to finding your R370 pay date once you are approved explains how SRD dates are set, since they do not follow the fixed calendar used for older persons or child grants.

Approved, but no pay day after a long wait

SASSA’s 2026 grant booklet tells applicants in this position to request a verification link and complete facial recognition. SASSA has also said it sometimes removes approved people from a payment run for further fraud screening and pays them afterwards.

Pending, or a month marked pending

SASSA has your application but has not finished checking it for that month. Do not reapply. What a pending SRD status means covers this in detail.

Bank details pending or reapplication pending

Both are fixable by you on the same website. The first means SASSA has no payment method on file for you, so capture bank details in your own name. The second means SASSA has no reapplication from you, so reapply.

Declined, referred or cancelled

A declined month can be taken on appeal to the independent appeals tribunal (ITSAA), one appeal per declined month, no later than 90 days after the decision, at srd.dsd.gov.za. Read how to lodge an SRD appeal before you do. Referred means SASSA’s system flagged an identity issue; the booklet’s fix is to request the update link on the portal and complete the facial check, or call 0800 60 10 11 if that fails. Cancelled means you or SASSA ended the application.
