Before you compare your marks with any programme at the University of Venda, check how Univen scores them, because its “NSC” totals run higher than the APS figures most universities print. The UNIVEN 2027 Undergraduate Prospectus asks for “NSC 30” for most BA degrees and “NSC 38” for Law and Nursing. Read those numbers with Univen’s own scale in mind, not the usual 1-to-7 levels.
The 28-page prospectus, released in 2026 for the 2027 intake, also covers campus facts, the four faculties and their programme tables, and contact people for each faculty. The 2027 window has already closed: online applications opened on 1 May 2026 and closed on 30 September 2026. Univen did not charge an application fee. For the steps and how to check your status, use our Univen online application guide.
How Univen turns percentages into points
Univen’s scoring table works in step with your percentage: 70–79% earns a score between 7.0 and 7.9, 60–69% between 6.0 and 6.9, and 90–100% between 9.0 and 10. A subject below 40% scores nothing. Life Orientation is left out, and if your results list more than seven subjects, only the seven with the highest marks count. The university’s minimum for any bachelor’s degree is 26 points, and you also need a bachelor’s pass with at least 50–59% in four recognised 20-credit subjects. Diplomas ask for 40–49% in four such subjects instead.
Requirements from the four faculty tables
These are the programmes applicants most often ask about, copied from the prospectus with their page numbers.
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB), p. 18: NSC 38 plus at least 60% in English; four years.
- Bachelor of Nursing, p. 14: NSC 38, with 60–69% in Life Sciences, English and Physical Sciences, and 50–59% in Mathematics. The three-year Diploma in Nursing asks for NSC 28, with 50–59% in Life Sciences, English and Physical Sciences and 40–49% in Mathematics.
- Bachelor of Psychology, p. 14: NSC 36 plus 50–59% in English, and a selection test.
- BCom in Accounting Sciences, p. 17: NSC 35, with 50–59% in English and at least 50% in Mathematics; four years. The three-year BCom in Accounting asks for NSC 32, with 50–59% in English and in either Accounting or Mathematics.
- BSc streams such as Computer Science or Biochemistry and Microbiology, pp. 22–23: NSC 26, with 50–59% or better in English, Mathematics, Physical Science and Life Sciences.
- BEd in Senior Phase and FET, p. 12: NSC 36, with 50% in English plus 50% in two subjects from one teaching group, for example the science group of Mathematics, Physical Sciences or Life Sciences.
- Bachelor of Social Work, p. 12: NSC 35 plus 50–59% in English.
Extended degrees when your total falls short
Univen offers four-year extended versions of many degrees. In Management, Commerce and Law, applicants with a bachelor’s pass and a score of 28 to 31 who miss their first-choice degree may be considered for the extended BAdmin or one of six extended BCom programmes. The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Agriculture runs extended BSc programmes too: most ask for NSC 26 with 40–49% in English, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, while a few, such as Mathematics and Physics, list a lower NSC 24 route.
