CUT Prospectus 2027: Online Course List, Points Scale and Entry Rules

Looking for a CUT prospectus PDF for 2027? The Central University of Technology, Free State does not print one. Its prospectus is a single web page, Courses Offered (Prospectus), which states plainly that it is “the Prospectus of CUT”. The page still carries the heading “The 2026 Prospectus of Programmes”, but CUT updated it on 8 September 2026 and uses it for the 2027 intake. Each programme listed there links to its own page with the campus, duration and detailed entry rules.

Timing comes next. CUT took 2027 undergraduate applications from April 2026 until 30 September 2026, and its application-process page says there are no late or walk-in applications. That window has now closed. Application was free, with no fee charged.

CUT’s own points scale goes up to 8

CUT does not use the familiar 1-to-7 APS. Its admission points page sets out a scale that splits the top band, so a distinction earns more:

  • 30–39% = 2, 40–49% = 3, 50–59% = 4, 60–69% = 5, 70–79% = 6, 80–89% = 7 and 90–100% = 8 points.
  • Life Orientation always counts as 1 point, however high your mark, and the same page asks for at least level 4 in it.
  • The general minimum is 27 points. A score of 22 to 26 means a selection test, and 21 or fewer means no admission.
  • English at 50% (home or first additional language) counts as sufficient proof of proficiency.

The selection tests page explains that the Wellness Centre runs these aptitude and English tests for invited applicants only. For the 2027 intake, the Welkom sessions run on six days from 16 to 27 November 2026, with more in January 2027. CUT also expects every new first-year to have written the National Benchmark Tests by 31 December, and uses those results to place students in extended programmes or extra academic support.

Points and subjects for sought-after CUT programmes

Where the prospectus table and a programme’s own page disagree, we give the programme page’s wording, because it is more specific.

  • Bachelor: Radiography in Diagnostics (Bloemfontein, 4 years): at least 30 points; 50% in Mathematics, Physical Science and Life Sciences; Life Orientation at least 40%; all applicants must write the NBT.
  • Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Civil Engineering (Bloemfontein, 3 years): 32 points; Mathematics at level 5 (60–69%); Physical Sciences and English at level 4. CUT rejects Mathematical Literacy for every engineering discipline.
  • BEngTech Electrical Engineering: 32 points with Mathematics, Physical Sciences and English at level 4 in the prospectus table; the electrical diploma asks 27 points.
  • Diploma: Information Technology (Bloemfontein and Welkom, 3 years): 27 points in the table, plus 60% in Mathematical Literacy or 40% in Mathematics or Information Technology.
  • Bachelor of Management Sciences in Accountancy (Bloemfontein and Welkom, 4 years): the programme page asks an M score of 27, Accounting at 60%, Mathematics at 40% or Mathematical Literacy at 60%, and English at 50%; selection tests may include psychometric testing. The prospectus table shows 30 points.
  • B Ed: Foundation Phase Teaching (Bloemfontein and Welkom): 27 points, English at level 4 and a second language at level 4.

Bloemfontein or Welkom, and where you will live

CUT teaches on two campuses. Bloemfontein hosts the full range, including health sciences and engineering, while Welkom, in the Free State goldfields, offers selected programmes such as IT, accountancy and foundation phase teaching. You request a residence place inside the main online application. CUT places applicants strictly by application date and reserves spaces for new first-years, so an early application helped. CUT residences have no dining halls, and students cook for themselves.

Any 2027 admission questions go through the Ask CUT support desk or the Bloemfontein switchboard on +27 (0) 51 507 3911. For the online steps, see our guide to applying at CUT, and compare other institutions on the prospectus hub or the list of university closing dates.
