DUT gave Applied Sciences applicants an extra month. A CAO notice dated 29 September 2026 moved the closing date for seven Durban University of Technology programmes from 30 September to 31 October 2026. If one of these is on your list, you can still apply on time rather than late. Five are Bachelor of Applied Science degrees and two are diplomas:
- Biotechnology (degree)
- Food Science and Technology (degree)
- Industrial Chemistry (degree)
- Sport Science and Management (degree)
- Textile Science (degree)
- Diploma in Nautical Studies (Sea Going)
- Diploma in Sustainable Horticulture and Landscaping
The same closing-date changes notice shows that the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Chiropractic got an extension too, but only from 31 August to 17 September 2026, so that one has now closed. DUT applications go through the CAO, and our DUT application guide walks through the form.
Missed every DUT date? Two things to know
For other DUT programmes the on-time date has passed, and a CAO application now carries a late flag. The CAO sets the late fee and the general rules, which we cover once on the CAO late applications page. Whether DUT looks at that late choice depends on whether the programme still has space once it has dealt with on-time applicants.
Last year DUT also opened a second route after results, on its own portal rather than the CAO’s website. DUT has not announced whether it will repeat this for 2027, so what follows describes January 2026 only.
DUT’s January 2026 late round, in detail
In January 2026 DUT published a flyer titled “Late Applications Open for Selected 2026 Programmes at DUT!” (PDF on dut.ac.za). Applicants used DUT’s online applications portal at onlineapps.dut.ac.za. The flyer set out the costs and conditions:
- R470 late application fee for anyone with no earlier CAO application, and R140 for a change of mind.
- Both kinds of application depended on space and did not guarantee acceptance.
- Normal NSC entry rules and minimum points per programme still applied.
The programmes on last year’s list were degrees in Geomatics, Construction Studies, Urban and Regional Planning and Textile Science; diplomas in Operations Management (part-time and not NSFAS-funded), Ecotourism, Pulp and Paper Technology, Civil Engineering and Construction Studies; and the Accounting Bridging Programme. Popular choices such as Health Sciences were absent. The 2027 list may look completely different, since it depends on which programmes have unfilled places.
Stay away from the Steve Biko and ML Sultan gates
DUT does not take walk-ins. During 2026 registration (12 January to 6 February 2026), access to registration halls was limited to students who held and had accepted a firm offer, according to DUT’s registration news report. Phone DUT on 031 373 5005, the enquiry number on the late flyer, rather than queueing.
When to look for DUT’s 2027 list
Last year’s flyer appeared in January, after the matric results. Check the DUT homepage, its uploads of notices and the CAO website from mid-January 2027. Meanwhile, apply for NSFAS before 31 October 2026 and compare DUT’s minimum points in the DUT prospectus summary, so you are ready if a programme you qualify for appears.
