DUT Prospectus 2027: Study Opportunities Guide and Late Closings

Most DUT programmes for 2027 closed on 30 September 2026, but seven did not. On 29 September the CAO moved seven Faculty of Applied Sciences programmes to a new closing date of 31 October 2026. That makes them one of the few on-time options left in KwaZulu-Natal for 2027. If you are still choosing, start with that list and then check the requirements in DUT’s own guide.

Seven DUT programmes that close on 31 October

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology (DU-D-BBT)
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Food Science and Technology (DU-D-BFS)
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Chemistry (DU-D-BSY)
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Sport Science and Management (DU-D-SSM)
  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Textile Science (DU-D-ATT)
  • Diploma in Nautical Studies (Sea Going) (DU-D-NS3)
  • Diploma in Sustainable Horticulture and Landscaping (DU-D-SHL)

These dates come from the CAO’s Closing Date Changes notice of 29 September 2026 (PDF). The same notice moved the Bachelor of Health Sciences in Chiropractic to 17 September, which has now passed. The radiography degrees closed earlier still, on 31 August 2026. Our DUT application guide takes you through the CAO steps.

DUT’s guide is called Study Opportunities 2027

Search for a “DUT prospectus” and you will not find a file with that name. DUT’s Student Admissions office publishes Study Opportunities 2027 (PDF) instead, dated May 2026. It runs to 168 pages and works through each undergraduate programme by faculty. Every entry gives the campus, the entry table for NSC, Senior Certificate and NC(V) applicants, any tests or interviews, and the CAO code. It also prices every first-year module, using 2026 fees, because DUT had not set 2027 fees when it went to print.

DUT counts points from your top six subjects. Life Orientation is left out because it is not a 20-credit subject. Many programmes then rank applicants on those points, so the published minimum gets you considered but does not secure a place.

Entry rules for five sought-after DUT programmes

  • Diploma in Accounting (Ritson Campus, Durban, or Riverside, Pietermaritzburg). You need English HL 3 or FAL 4, and Mathematics 3, Maths Literacy 5 or Accounting 4. You also need two more 20-credit subjects at 3 and one further recognised subject at 3. With 24–25 points DUT places you on the four-year extended curriculum, and with 26 or more on the three-year diploma.
  • Bachelor of Nursing (Indumiso Site, Pietermaritzburg). It needs 28 points excluding LO, English 3, Life Sciences 4, and Mathematics 4, Maths Literacy 6 or Physical Sciences 4. Add two further 20-credit subjects at 4, of which only one may be a language. Applicants also write DUT’s SATAP test and attend an interview. Graduates sign a contract to practise in South Africa for four years, community service included.
  • B Health Sciences in Emergency Medical Care and Rescue (Ritson Campus). It needs 30 points, with English, Mathematics and Life Sciences or Physical Sciences at 4, plus two 20-credit subjects at 4. Applicants must pass medical, physical and environmental fitness evaluations and need a driver’s licence by the end of first year.
  • B Health Sciences in Chiropractic. It needs English, Mathematics and LO at 4, and Life Sciences or Physical Sciences at 4. You must be over 17 and physically fit. DUT shortlists applicants from their Grade 11 and 12 subject profile and invites selected candidates to interviews, usually in September or October.
  • Diploma in Engineering Technology in Civil Engineering (DU-I-DNC, Indumiso). It needs English 4, Mathematics 4 or Technical Mathematics 5, and Physical Sciences 4 or Technical Science 5. DUT does not accept Maths Literacy in place of Mathematics and considers only first- and second-choice applicants.

Check the CAO change lists before you rely on page numbers

DUT’s guide went to print in May, and the CAO has published changes since then. Its Entry Requirement Changes notice of 1 October 2026 (PDF) now asks Civil Engineering applicants for three extra 20-credit subjects at 4, one more than the brochure lists. The same notice also revises the Chemical Engineering, Pulp and Paper Technology and Ecotourism entries. The full CAO Handbook 2027 Entry (PDF) puts the administration fee at R250 up to the end of October 2026, rising to R470 on 1 November.
