The Alfeco Foundation lists education and development as one of its pillars, and its bursary programme sits under that pillar. The programme gives students one academic year of financial help at a time, in engineering, finance, marketing and other fields. The foundation reports that it awarded more than 260 bursaries for the 2023/2024 academic year.
Alfeco’s calendar: apply August to January, decisions February to March
Instead of one advert with a fixed deadline, the Alfeco Foundation publishes a standing timetable. It accepts applications from August to January and reviews them from February to March, which lines up with registration at most universities and colleges. The foundation does not give an exact closing date, so treat the end of January as the outer limit and apply well before it.
On 2 October 2026 the “Download Application” buttons on the Alfeco Foundation bursary page did not lead to a form. Alfeco has not published a dated 2027 call either. Until the form appears, email the foundation to ask for the current application form rather than relying on copies passed around online.
Three things Alfeco weighs
- Financial need: the programme exists to remove money as the barrier to study.
- Academic performance: your matric results or university marks.
- Your motivation letter: Alfeco scores it as a separate criterion, so it deserves real effort. Explain what you are studying, why, and how the funding changes your situation.
Alfeco’s page names Engineering, Finance and Marketing as examples and says it supports diverse fields of study. Alfeco sets no published pass mark, age cap or list of excluded courses, so ask the foundation if you are unsure whether your qualification fits.
The five documents to attach
- A certified copy of your ID.
- Your academic records.
- Proof of registration at your institution.
- Proof of residence.
- A motivation letter.
Because Alfeco asks for proof of registration, the bursary suits students who already have a place, or current students renewing their funding each year. A Grade 12 learner should apply once the university or college has confirmed admission.
One year at a time
The Alfeco Foundation awards each bursary for one academic year. Its page does not promise automatic renewal, so plan on applying again in the next August to January window if you need help with the following year, and keep your marks up because academic performance counts each time.
