VUT Late Applications 2027: What Vaal University Has (and Hasn’t) Said

Vaal University of Technology has not published a late application process for 2027, and the evidence that it ran one recently is thin. The clearest trace is one sentence in a VUT Registrar circular from June 2025. It explains that the application fee covers a single academic year, “whether these were done in 2024 or during the late applications period in early 2025.” So VUT did take late applications in early 2025. We could not find any official notice of a similar window in January 2026.

That is all the evidence there is. VUT has given no dates, no list of courses and no channel for a 2027 late round. Treat any website that gives January 2027 dates for VUT with suspicion until VUT itself posts them.

The 2027 deadlines that have already passed

VUT’s how to apply page, checked on 3 October 2026, gives these dates. Applications opened on 21 May 2026. For South African applicants, academic applications for first-semester and year courses closed on 30 September 2026, and international applications closed the same day. Some diplomas, and the BEd in Senior Phase and FET Teaching, closed earlier, on 31 July 2026. Residence applications have a later cut-off of 31 October 2026, but that does not reopen the academic deadline.

Some websites give 30 October as VUT’s closing date. The how to apply page and the 2027 admission requirements sheet both give 30 September for academic applications. The fee is R110, and from this cycle you pay it on the application portal before the system lets you submit.

What January 2026 looked like at VUT

Last January was difficult at VUT. First-year registration was meant to start on 19 January 2026, but problems with a new system pushed it to 22 January 2026. VUT’s official update of 21 January 2026 set three rules:

  • Registration was online only, and walk-ins or in-person registrations would not be permitted “under any circumstances”.
  • Only applicants who had official admission confirmation could get into the registration platform.
  • Once a programme’s enrolment target was reached, no further registrations would be allowed.

The notice also warned that nobody can sell VUT places or fast-track registration, and that VUT appoints no agents. Its registration guide for 2026 said first-time entrants could register “until quotas are filled”, and it repeated that no walk-ins would be allowed. The registration page also published a list of fully subscribed qualifications. For a learner without an offer, that is the honest picture: VUT fills its quotas from people already admitted, and it does not take people at the gate.

Your realistic options now

If you applied to VUT on time, track your status and keep your contact details current. Our VUT application guide covers the portal, and the VUT prospectus page explains the APS scores. If you did not apply, do not wait for a VUT late round that may never be announced. Several universities still take 2027 applications in October and November. Our overview of which universities are still open lists them, and it includes neighbours such as UJ and TUT, which have documented January processes.

Apply for NSFAS by 31 October 2026 as well. VUT’s enquiries line is 086 186 1888 and its email is studentenquiries@vut.ac.za. We will check vut.ac.za for a January notice after the matric results are released and again around VUT’s registration dates in late January 2027.
