The South African Road Federation (SARF) invites South African and SADC students to apply for its 2026 bursary programme, supporting postgraduate and undergraduate studies in road transport–related fields. This partial bursary supplements your expenses depending on your study and need.
About the Bursary Provider
The SARF, founded in 1950, unites stakeholders in South Africa’s road transport sector and promotes development through education and professional training. Its bursary scheme nurtures future leaders in road engineering, economics, management, and safety, contributing to sustainable transport infrastructure.
Fields Covered
The bursary supports studies in:
- Road Engineering (Civil, Traffic, Bridge, Pavement, Transportation Planning, Construction Management, Construction Materials, Stormwater, Environment)
- Road Transport Management
- Road Transport Economics
- Road Safety/Traffic Engineering including Accident Investigation, Traffic Policing
Expenses Covered
SARF provides a partial bursary paid directly to your institution. The amount is determined by your financial need and SARF Council decisions—it’s intended to supplement other funding, not cover all study costs.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African or SADC citizens
- Be studying an eligible programme at a recognised SA tertiary institution
- Have passed semester 1 exams (National Diploma) or first-year exams (Degree)
- Be endorsed by their academic authority
- Preferably be enrolled full-time; part-time/distance considered
- Prefer applicants at postgraduate level, but undergraduates may apply
- Prefer employees of SARF member companies
- Commit to working in the SA road transport sector post-study
How to Apply
Download and complete the SARF bursary form, then submit it along with certified:
- ID document
- Grade 11 year-end and Matric results
- Most recent tertiary results
- Proof of registration/endorsement letters

Additional Requirements
As a bursar, you must:
- Register as an associate member of SARF (~R730/year)
- Submit study progress reports every 6 months
- Make a presentation at your local SARF branch about your studies
