The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) regulates how banks, insurers, investment managers and other financial institutions treat their customers. The FSCA runs a bursary scheme for one discipline only: actuarial science. On 1 October 2026 the FSCA’s website described the scheme but carried no application round, closing date or form for the 2027 academic year.
A regulator that funds future actuaries
The FSCA aims its bursary at learners who are high achievers and intend to study actuarial science at a university. The scheme sits in the FSCA’s careers section next to its internship and graduate programmes.
What the FSCA promises its bursars
- Funding for the full degree. The FSCA keeps paying for the entire duration of the studies, on the condition that the student passes the exams.
- Vacation work. Bursars spend time at the FSCA during university breaks to gain workplace experience.
- A path into a job. Once bursars finish their studies, the FSCA invites them to apply for permanent employment.
The FSCA does not publish a list of covered expenses, a minimum mark or an income limit on its website. Expect those details in the advert itself when the FSCA next recruits bursars, and read any service conditions in the contract before you sign.
Where the next FSCA round will appear
Check the FSCA Bursaries page on fsca.co.za regularly from now until the start of the 2027 academic year. If you need to confirm whether the FSCA still takes first-year applicants, the FSCA contact page lists the switchboard on +27 12 428 8000.
Earlier descriptions of an FSCA bursary for students with disabilities in law, economics, finance and data science circulate online. The FSCA’s own website does not mention that scheme at present, so treat such adverts with caution unless they come from fsca.co.za or an FSCA email address.
Preparing while you wait
Actuarial science degrees demand strong Mathematics results, so Grade 11 and Grade 12 marks count heavily with every funder in this field. Keep certified copies of your ID and latest results ready, and apply to universities early so you can show proof of admission when an advert opens.
Because the FSCA has no open round, it makes sense to spread your applications. The Sanlam actuarial bursary and the SAADP actuarial science bursary also fund future actuaries, and the science bursaries list covers related fields such as statistics and mathematics.
