Mediclinic and ER24 Bursary: No Intake for the 2027 Academic Year

Closed The last round closed on 31 July 2025. Mediclinic states it is not open for bursary applications for the 2027 academic year. Checked 1 October 2026 against the funder’s own notice.

Mediclinic Southern Africa, the private hospital group that owns the ER24 emergency medical service, grants a limited number of external bursaries towards course fees in nursing, pharmacy and emergency medical care. Mediclinic runs the scheme through Mediclinic Higher Education, its training institution. For the 2027 academic year Mediclinic has said plainly that it is not taking bursary applications.

No Mediclinic bursary intake for 2027

In its recent rounds Mediclinic accepted bursary applications from 1 May to 31 July, ahead of the next academic year. The last window we could verify on Mediclinic’s site was the one that closed on 31 July 2025, for 2026 studies. By May 2026 Mediclinic had replaced the application window on its external bursary opportunities page with a notice that it is not open for applications for the 2027 academic year. That notice was still there on 1 October 2026.

Mediclinic has not said whether the bursary will return for 2028. If you hoped to use it for 2027, plan other funding now, and keep an eye on Mediclinic’s page around May 2027 in case the usual window comes back.

What Mediclinic weighed when the bursary was open

Mediclinic’s bursary paid course fees only, not accommodation, meals or books. Mediclinic’s page still lists the criteria it uses:

  • For first-year study, your Grade 11 or Grade 12 results, which must qualify you for entry to a bachelor’s programme.
  • For later years, your programme results so far.
  • Proof of acceptance or registration at a registered institution offering the programme.
  • The financial position of the applicant and the applicant’s parents.
  • Preference for employment equity candidates.

Applications went through Mediclinic’s online student careers portal, where you registered a profile and then applied for the bursary listing. Mediclinic Higher Education handles student queries at heorecruitment@mediclinic.co.za.

Training with Mediclinic instead of a bursary

The bursary helped students at outside universities and colleges. Mediclinic Higher Education also runs its own higher certificate and diploma programmes in nursing and emergency care, which you apply for separately and pay fees for. Mediclinic charges a non-refundable R460 application fee for these formal qualifications, and states that it does not provide accommodation, transport or meals. Mediclinic’s how-to-apply page explains the register-then-apply process and warns that it accepts no late applications.

Health science funders still worth a look

Nursing students can check the DENOSA bursary and the Western Cape Department of Health bursary, which funds a range of health qualifications. For pharmacy, try the bursaries offered through the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa, and our medical bursaries page lists further options.

Is ER24 still part of Mediclinic?

Yes. ER24 describes itself as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mediclinic Southern Africa. Mediclinic’s bursary page lists emergency medical care as one of the funded fields, but ER24 does not run a separate bursary on its own website.

Can I still apply late for the 2027 Mediclinic bursary?

No. Mediclinic is not running a 2027 round at all, so there is no application to submit late.
