MMI Holdings no longer exists under that name. The insurer became Momentum Metropolitan Holdings and now trades as Momentum Group Limited; the old momentummetropolitan.co.za address forwards to momentumgroupltd.co.za. Students looking for the “MMI bursary” should therefore look for the Momentum Group Limited Actuarial Bursary Programme, which Momentum runs through its Actuarial Academy.
Momentum’s bursary portal shows no open round
Momentum takes bursary applications through its own recruitment system. On 2 October 2026 the Momentum Group bursary portal listed no open bursary opportunities, so applications for 2027 funding are not being taken there now. Momentum has not published a date for its next intake on any page we could read. The Momentum careers page links to the portal and is the place to watch.
A bursary for students already past first-year actuarial science
Momentum aims this bursary at strong students already registered for an Actuarial Science degree who have passed their first year, so it does not fund first-year study. If you are in matric now, plan to fund first year another way and apply to Momentum once your first-year results are in.
What the Actuarial Academy pays and provides
According to Momentum Group’s actuarial programmes page, the bursary covers:
- annual registration and tuition fees;
- accommodation and meals;
- prescribed textbooks;
- a travel allowance, a general allowance and a data allowance.
Beyond the money, Momentum places bursars in vacation work with its actuarial teams and pairs them with mentors who are actuarial students or qualified actuaries. Graduates can join Momentum’s in-house Actuarial Development Programme, which supports them through the remaining ASSA or IFoA exams towards Fellowship.
Getting ready for Momentum’s next intake
- Create a profile on the Momentum bursary portal now, so you can apply quickly once a posting appears.
- Keep your full academic record, certified ID and proof of registration up to date; actuarial bursaries are awarded largely on marks.
- Check the Momentum careers page every few weeks, and confirm any advert you see elsewhere against the portal before you send documents.
