Workers now sign in to the UIF at UIF Online, uifonline.labour.gov.za, not at uFiling. The Department of Employment and Labour moved employee claims to UIF Online from April 2025, and uFiling stopped handling claims from workers on 20 May 2026. If a bookmark, an old guide or a friend sends you to the uFiling login to see your claim, that is the reason it no longer works. uFiling’s login is still used by employers, at least until their services move across too.
Signing in to UIF Online
- Enter the address uifonline.labour.gov.za/uifOnline by hand; links in SMS or WhatsApp messages can lead to copies of the site.
- Choose Login from the menu at the top (the other two options are Home and Register).
- Enter the details you created when you registered, then submit.
- Once inside, use the claim option to apply for a benefit, or open an existing claim to follow it.
The department has not published a field-by-field manual for UIF Online, and screen wording can change between versions, so treat the steps above as a guide to the layout rather than exact labels. If you have never created a profile, you cannot log in yet: start with our guide to registering on UIF Online. The portal also warns you when your session is about to time out and gives you the option to continue; if you ignore it, you are logged out and anything unsaved may need to be re-entered.
Forgotten or expired password
UIF Online has both a forgotten-password and a reset-password option, and each starts by asking for your South African ID number. Use the ID number you registered with, check that the cellphone and email on your profile still work, and look in your spam folder for any message the portal sends. Asking for a reset several times in a row rarely helps; if nothing arrives after one or two tries, phone the call centre instead.
Locked out, or your phone number or email has changed
UIF Online has no published self-service route for unlocking a profile or replacing a lost cellphone number or email address. These have to go through the UIF itself: call 0800 030 007 (weekdays, 07:30–16:00) or email uifcallcenter@labour.gov.za, and have your ID number ready. During the uFiling years, locked ID numbers were handled by ufilingsupport@labour.gov.za; that address may still help with old uFiling profiles, though there is no official word on whether that address handles UIF Online profiles. Ask the call centre before registering a second profile with the same ID, so you don’t end up with two records for one claim.
Old uFiling details that no longer work
A uFiling username and password belonged to the old system. The department has said that claims lodged on uFiling are being migrated and none were lost, but it has not said that worker logins carry across. If your uFiling details fail on UIF Online, register on UIF Online and then look for your claim there. If the claim does not appear after you are inside, our page on UIF claims that don’t show online deals with that next step.
Quick answers on logging in
Can someone else log in for me?
Your login protects your banking details and claim. Do not give it to an agent or “consultant”: by law nobody may charge a fee to process a UIF application, and the department warns that people offering paid fast-tracking are scammers.
